Qamar Shamim Rahman was born in Azamgarh, India. She migrated to Canada
in1968 and then to New Zealand in 1972. She has lived in Hamilton since
then. She completed a BA degree from the University of Waikato, majoring
in Politics and English Literature, for the purpose of developing her writing
skills. She was one of the founding members of the Islamic Women's Council
of New Zealand, formed in 1991 and has been a very active participant, contributing
papers at its Annual General Meetings on various topics.
Qamar Rahman has been very active in the Islamic Community both in Hamilton and around New Zealand. She gives weekly talks about various aspects of Islam on the Community Radio in Hamilton and Auckland. She is married with three children.
